Samsung claims 500,000:1 contrast ratio with 70-inch LCD

Samsung has introduced a new high definition 70-inch LCD TV with dynamically-controlled LED backlighting that provides a contrast ratio of 500,000:1 and can halve power consumption, the company has announced. The new display was launched in South Korea today, and will go on sale worldwide in the second half of the year.

Lazy shoppers who see an ad for a music CD that they like can buy it instantly by snapping a photo with a camera phone, thanks to a new service now available in Japan.

128 gigabyte hard disk drives with no moving parts will be priced below $1000 before the end of this year, says the manufacturer of one of the first solid state drives (SSDs) to hit the market. The flash memory-based drives have numerous advantages over traditional rotating disk drives, including higher speed and much greater reliability, as well as reduced weight, power consumption and temperature.
